FEMZIP

Reduce your data transfer time, post-processing time and archive size.

FEMZIP is a specialised tool for the compression of LS-DYNA results

Developed by The Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing.

It reads in the plot state files (d3plot, *.ptf ) then reconstructs them to produce a compressed (zipped) version of the results that can be up to ten times smaller. The high compression rates of FEMZIP mean storage and backup resources can be reduced and results files can be quickly and easy transferred across networks.

Features & capabilities

Post-processing

D3PLOT directly reads FEMZIP compressed results files, reducing the time taken to read in and animate a typical full car model by up to 60%, depending on network speeds.

Functionality and settings

FEMZIP compresses the results data by reducing the number of significant figures used. Typically, LS-DYNA uses seven significant figures – a much higher level of precision than that required by the user. The user can control the level of precision using a parameters file, which specifies the required level for each data type (velocity, stress, etc.).

Decompression

The decompression tool (FEMUNZIP) is available free of charge, allowing compressed files to be sent to and accessed by everyone, not just FEMZIP customers.
