Position. Simulate. Assess.
Human Body Models (HBM) in the Oasys LS-DYNA Environment
An integrated workflow from positioning and load case preparation through to automated injury assessment and reporting – improving efficiency, consistency and confidence in your HBM simulations.
What are Human Body Models?
Human Body Models provide a more detailed representation of human anatomy than traditional Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATDs), enabling engineers to evaluate bones, organs and soft tissue responses in ways that are difficult to achieve using physical dummies alone.
Key Benefits:

Realistic occupant positioning
Accurate representation of human posture and variability leads to more realistic simulations
k

Provides detailed injury insight
Better understanding of injury mechanisms helps drive safer design decisions
k

Extensive virtual testing capability
High-fidelity human models and realistic behaviour enable more reliable virtual testing across a wider range of scenarios
k

Time, consistency
Automated and repeatable process reduce development time and ensure consistent reliable results
Simplifying HBM Positioning
Trusted by Human Body Model (HBM) manufacturers and used by organisations worldwide, Oasys PRIMER provides a fast and reliable way to position HBMs for LS-DYNA simulations. Combining HBM positioning trees with industry-leading model preparation tools, Oasys PRIMER streamlines the creation of realistic occupant and pedestrian positions while significantly reducing setup time.

Comprehensive Support
Oasys PRIMER positioning trees currently support a wide range of commercially available Human Body Models, including:
- THUMS (occupant, pedestrian and TB-024 models)
- GHBMC (Elemence)
- SAFER (Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers)
- VIVA+ (OpenVT)
- AC-HUMs (CAERI)
- HBM-CN (CATARC)
- HBM Connect® (Humanetics)
- HANS (Ansys, a Synopsys company)

One connected workflow, from positioning to injury assessment
Positioning is only one part of the story. With the Oasys Suite you’re fully supported through the entire HBM assessment workflow.
Oasys PRIMER safety tools are proven to reduce time-consuming tasks and minimise errors associated with load case setup. which includes:
- Belt Fitting
- Seat Positioning
- Seat Squash Capabilities
- Airbag Folding
- Model Checks
With integrated capabilities across the suite, dedicated HBM Assessment workflows streamline injury evaluation, automating results extraction and reporting in a standardised format according to consumer protocols and industry research, improving efficiency, consistency and confidence in your results
Assessments include: kinematics, BriC, UBriC, fracture probability risk and many more. More information can be found on this help page.
