Webinar description
As US vehicle architectures evolve, particularly with the adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), traditional side-impact barrier validation needs to account for new structural interactions. Low ride heights and stiff underfloor battery structures can create concentrated loading, non-uniform crushing and barrier ride-over behaviour that conventional validation tests may not fully capture.
In this webinar, we will explore the latest validation and recalibration work behind the Arup-Cellbond IIHS Side Impact Barrier 2.0 FE model for LS-DYNA, developed through collaboration between Arup, Cellbond and Stellantis. The work combines expanded physical barrier testing with full-vehicle assessment to improve physical-to-CAE correlation for localized impact loading.
Youโll discover how new center and offset bumper tests were introduced to investigate localized honeycomb crushing, bonded-interface separation and barrier rotation, and how these findings informed the development of the updated v2.0 model.
The result is an enhanced model that provides increased confidence for side-impact simulations involving both conventional vehicles and low-ride-height vehicles with stiff lower-body structures.
Key Highlights:
- IIHS side-impact simulation for US vehicles
- Enhanced validation for BEVs and localized loading
- Improved Arup-Cellbond Barrier 2.0 correlation
- Physical testing combined with full-vehicle assessment
- Collaborative work with Cellbond and Stellantis
