Webinar description

This webinar will explore recent research and development activity from Arup’s pedestrian safety team. For application with both NCAP and UN ECE R127 loadcases, innovative methods for modelling glass for use in windscreen impacts will be presented alongside recent leg impact research exploring the behaviour and mechanisms that can provoke asymmetric knee injuries from one side of a vehicle to the other.

Key Highlights:

  1. Why compliance is more critical than ever for automotive manufacturers
  2. A new method to simulate windshields under Euro NCAP and UN ECE R127
  3. Exploration of Asymmetric Ligament Behaviours of Lower Leg Injury in Automotive Pedestrian Impact
  4. A high level overview of the pedestrian workflow in the Oasys LS-DYNA Environment

Speaker 1 – Ben Crone, Arup Birmingham, UK

Ben Crone is an Associate at Arup with almost two decades of experience in automotive crash simulation and computer-aided engineering (CAE). A recognised LS-DYNA expert, Ben has worked extensively with the UK’s LS-DYNA community, providing training, technical support, and guidance to some of the largest user groups in the country.

In addition to his consultancy work, Ben contributes to the development of Oasys LS-DYNA Environment software, authoring several pedestrian impact tools within Oasys PRIMER, the industry-leading LS-DYNA pre-processor. You may read Ben’s recent thought leadership here.

Speaker 2 – Daniel Aggromito, Senior Engineer, Arup San Francisco, USA

Daniel is a Senior Engineer in Arup’s San Francisco office. Before joining Arup, he worked as a structural analyst for defense vehicle OEM Supacat, where he assessed critical vehicle components under various loading scenarios, including blast, crash, and fatigue. Since joining Arup, Daniel has focused on developing methods to simulate laminated glass build-ups under blast conditions. He has published numerous papers on this approach, including its application in predicting Head Injury Criteria for pedestrian head impact loads.
