Efficient end-to-end workflows

Virtual testing

Virtual Testing capabilities have been enhanced to support efficient and robust virtual testing processes, including support for the 2024 C-NCAP Virtual Far Side Protocol and numerous usability improvements to the Automotive Assessments Workflows tools, which makes the Oasys LS-DYNA Environment the software of choice for realising efficient and robust virtual testing processes.

Connections

Oasys PRIMER’s capabilities for creating and managing connections have been enhanced, including:

  • The addition of filter options when comparing connections across models or connections files.
  • A new arc/seam weld type enables users to create bolts and bolt holes simultaneously.
  • Support for new spotweld nugget types.
  • More options for HAZ zone elements.
  • The automatic adjustment of 3-layer to 2-layer connections.

Workflow automotive

In Version 22.0 additional REPORTER templates have been migrated to Workflows, adding support for more automotive protocols and updating existing protocols to the latest versions.

IGA

This new release includes visualisations of IGA_SOLID and supports reading selected IGA-related input formats, enhancing analysis and interpretation of isogeometric models. All IGA keywords in Oasys PRIMER are supported by JavaScript and Python, which means that engineers and process refinement specialists can automate IGA workflows. Users can also now pick, select, and edit IGA models with efficiency and accuracy through new visualisation capabilities, allowing engineers to see the changes made with instant feedback.

CPG

CPG (Continuum-based Particle Gas) is destined to take airbag simulation to the next level required for virtual testing, and the Oasys Suite is positioned to help users fully leverage the capabilities of this new CAE technology in Ansys LS-DYNA. From setting up airbags according to specifications using Oasys PRIMER to visualising and interrogating results using Oasys D3PLOT and Oasys T/HIS, the Oasys Suite provides an efficient end-to-end workflow to ensure designs are human safe.

Other highlights include:

  • Enhancements to the Battery Setup Tool and multi-physics capabilities, including the ability to visualise EM_ISOPOTENTIAL and EM_ISOPOTENTIAL_CONNECT keywords, the ability to create multiple battery definitions in one model, and an improved user experience for editing battery definitions.
  • DEFINE_MATERIAL_HISTORIES support in D3PLOT and DEFINE_MATERIAL_HISTORIES support in T/HIS.
  • Efficiency checks.

Flexible automation and integration

Load Path Tool Enhancements

Oasys PRIMER’s Load Path Tool enhancements ensure the cross-section process is more efficient and intuitive. The new auto-create tool automatically sets up suggested cross-section’s that engineers may need, simplifying the process with less manual input. Users can preview the cross-sections they are creating with new visual indicators and can set up multiple cross-sections at once, save these to their settings as preferences so it is even easier for the next analysis.

Speed and performance

Envelope HDF5

Oasys 22.0 introduces several enhancements focused on speed and performance. A standout addition is the new Envelope HDF5 feature in D3PLOT, which enables users to save computed envelope plots and reload them in future sessions—removing the need to regenerate them each time. This marks the beginning of ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of data extraction and storage.

Other highlights include:

  • UI and UX upgrades, including improvements to fixed label backgrounds and part screen mode, the introduction of a new combobox filter widget, and enhanced display of contact penetrations, all aimed at streamlining the experience.
  • Further usability and performance refinements to Page Navigation for a smoother and more responsive workflow when navigating large and complex models.

Human Safe Design

Damage, OLC, Tibia Index

The Oasys Suite continues to be the premier option for safety engineers striving to meet stringent regulations for their designs. Support for plotting these additional injury metrics is key to this – with Tibia Index being a widely used metric in frontal impact globally, and with OLC and DAMAGE being used in Euro NCAP protocols. Support for DAMAGE enhances brain injury metrics in line with research programmes, informing future protocol development in advanced brain injury metrics and Virtual Testing.

HBM Trees

Expanded support for many additional trees, with thorough validation of existing ones to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Load case

Load case enhancements in this release include updates to IP pendulum and HPM/HRMD, along with the introduction of Seat Positioning Tool.
